More Admiral Arleigh A. Burke

Leadership is understanding people and involving them to help you do a job. That takes all of the good characteristics, like integrity, dedication of purpose, selflessness, knowledge, skill, implacability, as well as determination not to accept failure.

Though he was not one to accept failure, he was not afraid of it and always learned from it. On a related note, Thomas Edison fell short over 10,000 times before finding a light bulb filament that worked. In his words, "I haven't failed. I just found ten thousand things that do not work."

Most of us could stand to be a little less risk averse.
