Fifth Navy CO Fired in 2011

The skipper of VAQ-129 (the Navy and Marine Corps’ EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler training squadron) was fired on 11 April 2011. Newspapers in Washington state report that Commander Tim Murphy was stopped by Anacortes police early Sunday on suspicion of driving drunk - after being pulled over for speeding.

Captain Christopher Shay, Commander Electronic Attack Wing-Pacific, relieved Murphy due to "loss of confidence in his ability to command."

Captain Shay relieved Murphy for failing to maintain the high standards of conduct expected of the wing's commanding officers.

Commander Murphy won the Capt. Thomas J. Ford Electronic Attack Community Leadership Award while serving as VAQ 140’s executive officer in 2007.

Word to the wise...alcohol and motor vehicles don't mix well.
