Mike, it does not take a "letter freak" to recognize a class act.
A shot at today:
Thank you for your service and hard work. My apologies for the materiel condition of the fleet and, although we tried, the inadequacy of the training you received. I can assure you our plans were well intentioned and looked good on PowerPoint.
You can take solace in knowing that while you were forward doing more with less, the DOD provided employment in all 50 States feeding the military-industrial-congressional complex and getting YOUR elected representatives reelected.
I hasten you to take advantage of your Veteran's Education Benefits, Congress got something right.
