Change
“If you want to change the Navy, pick up your pen and write.”
I am certain that in history, someone else has said if you want to change "X" (X = world, your business, the school system, etc), pick up your pen (typewriter) and write. Otherwise, it's a Mike Lambert 'original'? ADM Stavridis may have suggested something similar - think, read, write and publish.

Is this a Mike Lambert original?
I do believe writing is a step toward change, but it seem in many cases, nobody is listening. They might read, but they don't listen.

Thank you. I wrote the CNO about my CO/XO today. I hope it helps.
I recommend careful thought before any letters to senior Navy leaders. Be wary of giving them a reason to come after you.
Having the courage to write is only half the solution to changing the Navy...the other half being the DOING or ACTING portion.

What DOING and ACTING do you recommend?
