How our Navy Flags used to correspond --- "With kindest personal regards,"
A retired Admiral Bull Halsey took the time to thank the many Sailors who contributed to the Navy's and his success - a couple of years after the conclusion of World War II.

Don't see much of this anymore by letter or record message.
I recently read that the MCPON personally signs and sends a letter to every Sailor selected for advancement to CPO. Although not hand written, the signing alone depicts an investment in time that is meaningful to each newly selected CPO who receives one.
