The professionalism of our force is built upon mastery of a core set of skills that every cryptologic professional must possess. It all starts with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of cryptology, and a requirement that our professionals think clearly, and convey their analysis and assessments just as clearly to our Navy and our nation's decision-makers.

I'm just a non-military observer. I see that dictionary definitions of "Cryptology," "cryptography," and "Cryptanalysis" have historically been linked to coding and codebreaking. Are today's enlisted and commissioned members of the "cryptologic warfare" community really doing much of that, or are they primarily experts in electronic communications, radar, electronic warfare, and other activities that do not involve coding and decoding?
