Heaven's Third Wire
My Shipmate and occasional blog wingman, Neptunus Rex has departed this earth. Flight lines everywhere are still.

Funeral services are planned for San Diego later this month for the retired Navy captain who was killed in northern Nevada last week when the jet he was flying crashed into a small munitions building at Fallon Naval Air Station.
Retired Capt. Carroll LeFon was flying the Israeli-built F-21 for a Newport News, Va.-based company that simulates enemy aircraft for Navy pilots during training exercises at the base about 60 miles east of Reno.
The 51-year-old highly decorated pilot was an instructor at the Navy's TOPGUN Fighter Weapons School and commanded the Strike Fighter Squadron 94 from 2001-03. During seven deployments, he served on the aircraft carriers Constellation, Independence and Carl Vinson.
The March 27 service is planned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
Carroll "Lex" LeFon was a retired US Navy captain, incipient crank, rapidly aging curmudgeon and used-to-be naval aviator with over 4000 hours in fighter aircraft, predominantly the FA-18C Hornet. His operational experience included seven carrier deployments, including several in support of Operation Southern Watch, enforcing UN Sanctions in the Southern No-Fly Zone over Iraq. After commanding an operational FA-18 squadron he reported to the USS Constellation in 2001, later serving as her Operations Officer in the Arabian Gulf during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Shore tours include tours as instructor pilot in basic jet training, as an adversary instructor and as the Executive Officer of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN).
He retired from the Navy in 2008, after serving as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training on two flag staffs. He is a 1982 graduate from the US Naval Academy with a BS in Political Science, with a Master of Science in Systems Engineering Management from the US Naval Postgraduate School.
