Not a good writer

"I’m not a very good writer, but I’m an excellent rewriter."

One of the first books that I read as a teenager was “Tales of the South Pacific”. I could hardly believe it when the music that was derived from that work held the top spots on the “Lucky Strike Hit Parade” for a number of weeks. I understand that I mentioned a cigarette company, but that was not the forbidden thing that it is today. The music was not Michener’s but the story line sentiment was. For those of you that may not remember that far back, we out in the mountains of Colorado could only get radio from the big city of Denver at night, there was nothing but static during the day light hours, but after night came about the AM radio sounded fairly good for those days. Some of my favorite songs to this day are, Some Enchanted Evening, Bali Ha’i
Younger Than Springtime and a lot of the music by Rodgers and Hammerstein that was incorporated into the musical “Tales of the South Pacific”.

The author James Michener with the multitude of books and the short stories he wrote is an American hero to me, he probably wrote more words than most of us have said in our lifetime. He did have a staff of researchers and no doubt proofreaders but the words were his.
