Information Dominance Corps –

Let me begin by saying how pleased and honored I am to be a member of the IDC. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t be more excited about the challenges we face together. Although primarily a consumer of your products and services for the bulk of my career, I have been thoroughly impressed with the technical talent and professionalism I’ve seen over the last two months; I truly believe the IDC is on the cutting edge of warfighting in the Information Age.

Starting with a superb turnover from VADM Card and continuing through my first few  weeks on the job, my experience so far has confirmed for me that Information Dominance is a new center of gravity for the Navy. I’ve examined each of the Information Dominance strategies cover to cover; they are solid, forward-leaning, and match the CNO’s core tenets very well. I’ve met individually with the CNO, the Vice Chief, and Admiral Gortney; each has an undeniably clear view of Information Dominance as a force multiplier, and each has high expectations with respect to your crucial role in it. I’ve conferred with most of the flag and senior executive leaders of the IDC, and shared my principal goals: 1) Realize the Information Dominance Strategy, and 2) Shape the IDC with a warrior ethos to match its position as Navy’s newest warfighting pillar.

Make no mistake. We are at the dawn of a new age of warfare—everything we do is about warfighting. I am thrilled to be a part of this outstanding team and I greatly look forward to advancing the Navy’s Information Dominance agenda with you.

" I’ve met individually with the CNO, the Vice Chief, and Admiral Gortney; each has an undeniably clear view of Information Dominance as a force multiplier..." Maybe I'm reading too much into this statement, but shouldn't that phrase ended with the words "primary warfare area"? To be a force multiplier means the discrete communities that make up the IDC remain viewed as they have been for decades.

He sure knows information dominance. Three paragraphs of pure crap communicating absolutely nothing at all.
Way to dominate!

VADM Branch seems like an accomplished aviator and leader. Sadly, the head of the Information Dominance Corps is on his first tour in an information dominance billet. Can not the IDC come up with one flag to lead the strange mixture of intel guys, spooks, weather guessers and comms geeks? We gotta go outside the collection of communities? How does that support the mantra that the IDC is a warfighting community when we gotta bring in an aviator to represent our interests with the CNO?

Concur with 7:51, great Officer, but... Just looked at his official biography, no IDWO pin. Do we really let a non-qual lead the IDC? Or maybe we give him the pin, either way it's sad.

Anon @ 1:31 PM

Haters gonna hate.

You added nothing to the discussion with your comment. At the 3 star level, our Flags are prepared to lead with resident staff support that does an admirable job of getting them up to speed on the key issues which allow them to lead at that level.

While your point that great leaders can lead anything may be, arguably, true. It really does make the job a lot easier if you know what you are leading. An IDC Flag would have been better to lead the IDC.

As a shout out to the 1610s of by gone days … this is just another step away from our humble origins as the premiere Officer Corps SIGINT SMEs (The first step was the rising tide of lat xfer ‘leaders’ that began long ago)

ps. I blame the 1630s

Aviator or not, you gotta give the guy credit for slogging through those strategy documents.Nobody else has read them. Dozens of pages of Inside-the-Beltway jargon strung together with a bunch of hyperbolic chiches tossed about just to leave the reader bewildered. If those publications mean something to him, then lets get behind him and give all the money to the Growler community and Cyber COMSEC folks.

There was no discussion. I commented on a man who wrote a semantic null. He is uber qualified as an IDWO.

the God damned moderation shit is easier if one just opts for anon.

I'm on the fence here. If the IDC cannot lead itself, what message does that send to the rest of the Navy? What message does it send to the IDC? Who are we kidding? Then again, why not have an accomplished and respected URL Flag Officer who can go toe-to-toe with the other URL Flag's in the budget wars? Isn't this the best strategy to move the IDC interests forward in today's enviornment? Help me Mr. Wizard!!!
