Navy Fires Two More Commanding Officers

Fast Attack Submarine USS COLUMBIA's Commanding Officer, Commander Dennis Klein was fired by Commander Submarine Group Squadron SEVEN (Captain James Pitts) after determining that Commander Klein failed to "exhibit adequate leadership” during some operational assessments.  Commander Klein's Chief of the Boat was also fired.

Commander Lee Hoey, Commander of the Navy's Drug Screening Lab was fired for "poor command climate", according to Captain Cappy Surette, spokesman for the Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Commander Hoey's Executive Officer was also fired.  The firings were due to poor performance on command climate surveys, some of which had been prompted by hotline reports to the inspector general.

I think it's Squadron 7 not Group 7. Easy mistake to make.

@4:29 PM Thanks for the correction. I forgot SUBGRU SEVEN was in Yoko. I knew that.

lots of folks getting fired as the result of command climate surveys. Surveys that by their very nature are anonymous, therefore offering disgruntled folks the ability to level claims against their chain of command with little concern for accountability....

there are a lot of mid-grade to senior O-4s out there wondering if command is really something to aspire towards.

Commander Lee Hoey must have "pissed" too many of his Sailors off!

The U.S. Navy holds those in positions of command to very high standards and accountable when those standards are not met. When those in leadership positions fail to meet these high standards and superiors lose confidence in their ability to lead, they are removed from positions of command authority.

The reliefs of Klein and Williams were related to shortfalls in professional performance leading to leadership's loss of confidence in their ability to serve in positions of command authority.
