Musings, leadership tidbits and quotes posted by a retired Navy Captain (really just a high performing 2nd Class Petty Officer) who hung up his uniform a bit too early (even at 30 years). The uniform is in the closet but, he still wears his Navy service on his sleeve. He needs to get over that. But, he just doesn't try hard enough. "ADVANCE WARNING - NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT!" A bit of advice for the Secretary of the Navy
LTjg Ray E. Mabus - USS LITTLE ROCK 1972
Trust Sailors and they will be true to you;
treat them greatly, and they will show themselves great.
Do otherwise at your own peril.

A true statement. Sadly he doesn't follow his own advice.
The Mabus initiated breathalyzer is completely counter to this and a scourge that will forever tarnish his name in Sailors eyes. Trust a man by what he does - not by what he says.
The Honorable Secretary of the Navy might appear to some as a little scruffy, but that was years ago in the Days of Z-Grams. It would also appear to this old Sailor that he had found his area of liking and is still doing some scruffy things.

I think this is advice "for" him, not "from" him.
