Flag Officer Announcements

           Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

           Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) William E. Leigher has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral.  Leigher is currently serving as deputy commander, Fleet Cyber Command/deputy commander, Tenth Fleet, Fort Meade, Md.

U.S. Department of Defense
Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs)

Well deserved! I'm thrilled to hear confirmation of the rumors. RDML Leigher has worked long and hard to advance the role of Information Warfare in the Navy. I have no doubt he will continue to push us all to achieve what we thought to be impossible.

It's kind of funny that anyone was surprised by this. Didn't anyone see the message last fall that stated there was a zone of one to pick one IWO RADM? Not to take anything away from Admiral Leigher, but this was decided months ago. We were only waiting on the results. Rumors? Please.
