Captain,
Awesome post. Being on the 6 year high school program, hard to graduate when you don't go, I never realized the value of education. It took me many years to realize, that writing and education were essential to Navy advancement and not just something for Officers.
Many people tell me now that they don't write well so their evals look like a hot mess. They have come to expect me to FIX them. I tell them that I didn't improve over night but it took years of writing to get better and it's a continual process. If you don't practice then you will never get better.
Some get it and some don't, but those that do are what make being a leader satisfying.
