A note ... of note - as the years go by

The "art of the letter" is not completely lost.  I see glimmers of hope every day in my mailbox.

CDR Velasco-Lind was amazing as our CO. Where is she now, I lost track?

She was amazing as an O4 as well when she was stationed at Fort Meade. A decent amount of us looked to her as what we should be striving to achieve and how to achieve it.

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Navy Information Operations Command San Diego (NIOC SD) held a change of command ceremony at Qualcomm Stadium, July 22.

Capt. Joseph Finn, executive officer, NIOC Norfolk, presided over the ceremony in which Cmdr. Sherri R. Zimmerman relieved Cmdr. Rachel J. Velasco-Lind as commanding officer of NIOC SD.

"It was through her contagious enthusiasm and inspirational leadership that NIOC SD exceeded all expectations," said Finn. He went on to speak highly of the job Velasco-Lind had done over the past two years and presented the former commanding officer with the Meritorious Service Medal for the distinguished performance of her duties.

Velasco-Lind will be assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations staff.

During the ceremony, Velasco-Lind thanked the Sailors and civilians of NIOC SD for a rewarding tour and acknowledged the support her family provided throughout the years.

"I was extremely honored to have worked with such an exceptional team. I am truly saddened to leave, but know that you are all being left in more than capable hands," said Velasco-Lind. "Continue to strive for greatness, keep pushing that ball down the field, and Rock On!"

Zimmerman's most recent tours include NIOC Texas, as executive officer, and prior to that with Navy Cyber Forces, Suffolk, Virginia, as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Readiness and Modernization.

"I am truly honored for this opportunity to lead this command," said Zimmerman. "I am confident that together, we will continue to establish ourselves as the preeminent force in information operations, electronic warfare and network security."

NIOC SD's mission is to provide cyber operations, information operations, and electronic warfare to Naval and Joint Forces.

NIOC SD is an echelon IV Command, reporting to the U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet
