The Navy realigns its organization toward information dominance

I was trained from the time I graduated from Boot Camp to be a Gunner, I was aware of what Main Battery meant for my entire Naval career. I could not even be assigned shore duty that did not apply to the Fire Control rating and to my MOS for that entire career. I have no real complaint against those Navy individuals who most of us hardware Sailors would have classified at one time as dit-dahs, spooks, and a number of other metaphors that were used by the average Sailor. I tried to not use such descriptions for my shipmates because we had to live and work together on board ship to insure survival. And as a Fire Control Technician the average Sailor had such names for that rating as well. I have some objection to the IW Community, or whatever you folks refer to yourselves as in these days, as being Main Battery. They have placed themselves “out of battery” and that is indeed a dangerous place to be.
