Twenty six years ago my Lieutenant Commander boss asked me, "Mike, if you were a smart Naval officer, how do you think you would have done "this"?"This" was escorting a Seaman Apprentice to Narita Airport in Tokyo for further transit to his ship in San Diego, California following 45 days of correctional custody. Somehow, the E-2 outsmarted the Ensign and Chief Petty Officer and he escaped. We never saw him again. He did call 3 days later to tell us he was leaving. He reported to his ship on time. The OIC said - "Well, he did better than you fellows - I am pretty sure you two have missed the boat."
