2014 CAPTAIN JOSEPH ROCHEFORT INFORMATION WARFARE OFFICER DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP AWARD

Congratulations to LCDR Chuck Hall on his selection as the 2014 Captain Joseph Rochefort IWO Distinguished Leadership Award Winner!!

RMKS/1. Captain Joseph John Rochefort was a major figure in the U.S. Navy's development of cryptologic and intelligence capabilities from 1925 to 1947. He headed the Navy's fledgling cryptanalytic organization in the 1920's and provided singularly superb cryptologic support to the U.S. fleet during World War II, leading to victory in the Pacific. At the end of his career (1942-1946), CAPT Rochefort successfully headed the Pacific Strategic Intelligence Group in Washington. In 1986, he posthumously received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contribution during the Battle of Midway.

Congratulations to Chuck !!! Great job shipmate.

Would like to have seen more commands represented in the nominations.

Not a single nominee from NIOC Ft Meade, NIOC Hawaii, NIOC Georgia, Tenth Fleet/FCC. Only one reserve nominee! Only one woman nominee! Put this one down in the missed opportunity category.

Outstanding choice! Not bad for a former COMEVAL ;)

How is this a "missed opportunity"? This is a merit based award. Not quota based.

@LCDR/LDO/6440

It is a missed opportunity to nominate a deserving individual for this important award. You can't convince me that there is not a deserving officer at the commands I mentioned.

Chuck is one of the best Officers I've ever served under. Very well deserved. Might have been a flyer at one point, but I know him as a NSW IW officer who has been on the ground with the boys in some pretty hairy situations leading from the front with no fear.

There are many great Officers in our community and each of the nominees certainly can be described as such. I had a tough time picking who I nominated this year and remain pleased that I chose to nominate Chuck. I would have been just as pleased if another fine Officer was selected in favor of Chuck. What disappoints me is the number of nominations submitted (not to be confused with the number of nominees). I do not have personal knowledge of the number of nominations, but I am willing to bet it is not much more (if any) than the number of nominees. This is a measure of the "WE" across the community. The more nominations submitted, the greater the "WE." Appears to me that the "ME" outnumbers the "WE." Congratulations to all of the nominees and congratulations to all of the nominators. Those who chose to nominate seem to understand Captain Rochefort's philosophy at least as much as those who were nominated..."There's no limit to what you can accomplish, so long as you don't care who gets the credit!" I am not eligible to nominate anyone next year, but I hope the number at least doubles. More WE, less ME!

Agree with the philosophy of not caring who receives the credit, but I'm not sure how that applies here. It's not like those who didn't nominate someone were selfishly nominating themselves. That would seem to be a case of more "ME".

Anyways, BZ Chuck.

The quote, "Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." comes to mind. Nominating someone else is an expression of gratitude. Not taking advantage of an opportunity to do so is not necessarily selfish, but it certainly isn't selfless.

I concur with your assessment of self-nominations.
