Hey Captain
Just a few quick q's:
Why did you join the Navy instead of Air Force, and
Why is the Navy a better place (I know you know it is)?
I'm doing a persuasive speech for my speech class about Navy over Air Force. I thought the more real opinions the better. Thanks!

Interesting questions...I was Squadron Commander (AFJROTC LtCol) of the GR-71st AFJROTC unit at Wiesbaden American High School (General H.H. Arnold). I planned on going to the USAFA in Colorado. I didn't know I was color blind. I joined the Navy instead and then flew for 7 1/2 years in Navy aerial reconnaissance aircraft. Go figure. The Navy was a great place for me. They sent me to Russian language school for a year, paid for my college education and then sent me to Postgraduate School to get my Masters Degree. Each of the services has its attraction. USAF is more business like. Navy is a "can do" organization. I served ashore, in submarines, aboard ship and flew quite a bit. I had a great run for a lot of years. Serving your country in any branch of service is a good thing. It is NOTHING like what you are experiencing now with CAP. It is very rewarding. All the best. Captain L

Wow... I never knew you flew.. Interesting, because that's exactly what I want to do after I get to USNA. Fighter pilot is my goal, but I'll be happy with anything on the flight deck, really. Thanks for the info!

I flew as a Russian linguist and communications evaluator aboard EP-3, EA-3B and P-3C aircraft in the 1980s. Lots of fun. I am sure you'll be ready for the USNA when the time comes. Some of their first women graduates are Admirals now. You can join them.

All the best.
