Think this may be the last post

40 years ago today I began my Navy adventure.  It has been awesome being a part of that.  I think this will be my last post on the blog.  I do reserve the right to change my mind.

Sir,
First of all, happy anniversary!
I want to thank you very much for keeping this blog. "I Like The Cut Of His Jib!!" has been part of my daily routine for several years now. Many of your posts about leadership, Navy culture, and the Cryptologic community have make their way from the computer screen to my wheel book, to quarters or the whiteboard in my work-space. I hope that you DO change your mind, but if not, fair winds and following seas!
Very Respectfully,
CTI1(IDW/SW) Demian Ford

I want to thank you for all of your posts. You've definitely helped to keep me informed. I've enjoyed reading them. Have to concur with Captain Steve - please change your mind. Not only do I enjoy reading them, but I like to share and have passed them along to others who don't subscribe too many times to count.
Thank you

V/r,

Thanks for all your posts! I'm a Navy veteran and I often share your blog posts with my civilian friends. I've enjoyed reading your takes on Leadership. I hope to see more from you, but after many years I imagine you deserve a break!

Your blog inspired me to start a leadership blog of sorts at my previous command, where I distributed a leadership thought of the day to supervisors and high-achieving non-supervisors. Thank you for the inspiration and many years of great leadership tools. Good luck on all future endeavors!

I will miss your writing. Much of it was good.

I tell those who follow my own that it is written as lessons for my 12 year (now) daughter but then, she only learned that I had a blog yesterday. If not for her, I'd give it up instantly.

You and I spent about 30 years each doing something we loved in the Navy. It's interesting how two such as us can come from the same service and differ so much. Still, I ddi the same thing with SPECWAR. Mine was a terribly small community but satisfaction came from inviting both to play by my rules or play by themselves. We were utterly unique back then. We had no counterparts anywhere and fun was where you found it.

I'm still having fun.

Enjoy your life!

Have to agree with Captain Steve - I already miss your posts. They were a part of my daily routine. Any suggestions on how to replace this?

Your last post? Nah...I doubt it.
I do have to say that I have enjoyed your posts over the past few years. I wish our community could stand a blog/post like this....

Mike:

The bookmark for your blog will join the one for "The Stupid Shall Be Punished" (which stopped updating last year) as one I revisit every week in the hope that new material suddenly appears.

I was fortunate to be on the receiving end of your high regard for standards and integrity early in both of our careers. I'm not so good at math, but can count to 30, and that's how about how many years it's been.

And while I share your fondness for letters, we'll have to agree to disagree on the true value of the handwritten kind. Your awesome penmanship goes easy on the readers. Mine, on the other hand, diminishes the value of the content as readers try to distinguish between "h" and "n"...along with the other 24 letters of the alphabet as I render them. For my readers, nothing says "I value the time you are taking to read this" more than giving them something that is legible.

Without any updates here, I can no longer make the lame claim that "I check in with Lambert" every day. So if you really are done here, let's agree to a f-2-f in meatspace in the near future.

I still have multiple professional reasons for a limited online persona. I appreciate the risk you take in a written and public record, and applaud you for encouraging others to do so. Sadly, I think many creative and thoughtful critical thinkers legitimately withhold their contributions because of concern over both overt and subtle negative responses. Plenty of those holding the reins of influence and authority continue to resist having them tugged on...

Thanks for your presence here.

I do not want to see this blog end, but believe it may be time. The community you are trying to help and inspire is in shambles and doesn't seem to want to take any guidance from anyone.

I look around my work center and am absolutely disgusted by the stock of cryptologic officers we have. They do not understand the basics of leadership vice cryptology. They along with the retired Navy folks who were big shots back in the day, seem neutered and afraid to make any decision without having an infinite amount of meetings to have a meeting on possibly meeting for a decision.

I applaud you for putting yourself out there on this blog post, trying your best to give sage advice and staying true to your cryptologic roots. It has been ingested by some of us and hopefully more will read the archives and learn a thing or two.
