Character and Integrity

"...let me reinforce something you already know: that character and integrity must be at the core of your quest for high achievement. These are what make a decent and productive life possible, whether in public service or in the private sector. At a time when we are all too aware of the social, political, and even economic costs of politicians who lie, business leaders who cheat and steal, and other fraudulent individuals, your honesty and your integrity will be your greatest assets. They will shine like a beacon in a storm. Develop them. Refine them. Bind yourself to them."

Robert M. Gates, Secretary of Defense

Sir, thank you for the interesting posts. I am impressed by your career and can appreciate your comments about 30 years not being long enough and wearing your service on your sleeve. I am lucky enough to have a second run at a Navy career. Enlisted for 10 years, out for 13, back as a Supply Corps officer.

Now speaking of character and integrity and the Supply Corps, I recently read where Ken Lay of Enron fame was a Navy SC officer.

Thanks for the comment. Best of luck with your 'new' naval career. My roommate at OCS was an SC officer. Great career field.
