Musings, leadership tidbits and quotes posted by a retired Navy Captain (really just a high performing 2nd Class Petty Officer) who hung up his uniform a bit too early. He still wears his Navy service on his sleeve. He needs to get over that. "ADVANCE WARNING - NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT!" A "self-appointed" lead EVANGELIST for the "cryptologic community". Change
“If you want to change the Navy, pick up your pen and write.”
I am certain that in history, someone else has said if you want to change "X" (X = world, your business, the school system, etc), pick up your pen (typewriter) and write. Otherwise, it's a Mike Lambert 'original'? ADM Stavridis may have suggested something similar - think, read, write and publish.
Is this a Mike Lambert original?
ReplyDeleteI do believe writing is a step toward change, but it seem in many cases, nobody is listening. They might read, but they don't listen.

Thank you. I wrote the CNO about my CO/XO today. I hope it helps.
ReplyDeleteI recommend careful thought before any letters to senior Navy leaders. Be wary of giving them a reason to come after you.
ReplyDeleteHaving the courage to write is only half the solution to changing the Navy...the other half being the DOING or ACTING portion.
