USS JOHN P. MURTHA - maybe not

Hoping that the FBI investigation may help Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus reconsider his decision to name LPD-26 USS JOHN P. MURTHA.  The contract to build the ship was awarded to Ingalls Shipyard on April Fool's Day 2011.  Many in the Navy thought it was an April Fool's Day joke.  Sadly,  it was not.  I am hoping that the FBI investigation will convince SECNAV to change his mind.  

There is still time to do as Former SECDEF Gates said - "Do the 'hard right' instead of the 'easy wrong'."

    I am also hoping that the right thing will prevail in this matter. Mr. Murtha was not an honorable man. An FBI investigation into serious felonious misconduct should make the matter crystal clear.

    On a more serious note, how can any Sailor feel pride being assigned to a ship named after this man? It's a joke in the worst possible way.

    SECNAV, do the right thing and change the name of the ship to honor a TRULY honorable man - USS JOHN FINN.

    VADM Joe Sestak (USN Ret) and PA Democrat Senator should do the right thing here - demand Murtha's name be removed from this ship. But then again Sestak is a Democrat so I doubt he'll do the right thing unless it has some political benefit for him/his constituents.

    Congressman Murtha's response to FBI operatives posing as intermediaries for Saudi nationals hoping to bribe their way through the immigration process into the United States: "I'm not interested... at this point. [If] we do business for a while, maybe I'll be interested."

    It is absurd to name a naval vessel after someone whose actions were so antithetical the Navy's core values.

    Captain Lambert,

    The Honorable Secretary of the Navy might want to consider changing this ships name to Arron Burr or maybe Benedict Arnold, the traitor to our cause, but had once been an honored patriot.
