NMCI - five minute old network?

“NMCI is not a 10-year-old network. The NMCI program is 10 years-old, but NMCI is a completely modern, five-minute-old network. We have upgraded and maintained NMCI with cutting-edge technology deployed on it since the beginning. All aspects of NMCI are state-of-the-art and state-of-the-shelf today.”

– NMCI Program Manager
Captain Scott N. Weller

  1. Not only did this guy drink the Kool Aid, he swallowed the pitcher.

"the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) provides secure, seamless, and global end-to-end connectivity to more than 700,000 Department of Navy personnel at more than 3,000 sites in the continental United States, Hawaii and Japan. NMCI is a comprehensive information and communications network that replaced existing shore-based networks with one secure intranet, delivering access, interoperability and security through voice, video and data services."

    I'm gonna BARF !!

  2. And he said it with a straight face. Who reads CHIPS anyway?

  3. NMCI is the only network that considers a 75% customer satisfaction rate as a success.

  4. Further proof that job satisfaction can be directly proportional to one's capacity for self-delusion.

  6. Really. I reckon it works some of the time, which makes it a success when compared to the more recent NAVSEA products. I'll down a shot of kool aid to that proposition.

  7. But NMCI is a complete piece of junk system, with software and hardware that fails to be kept up-to-date. Most software is at least two-three years old. We've only just begun to transition away from CRT monitors. File transfer limits are way too small to be practical.

Best this to do with this system is junk it. It's a waste of money, and the Navy owns none of it. ROI??? Um, Captain Weller-- please resign immediately if this is your idea of a great system.

  8. NMCI has done more harm to the US Navy than anything since the Kido Butai.

  9. I wish my job was as easy as this clown's.

He really thinks that just because they have big numbers in terms of computers that NMCI is doing a good job?

You can't even use a more up-to-date web browser on the system, and even the newer computers are slow as hell because of the amount of nonsense they put on the computers.

  10. Man. You people really have no clue............what makes the network this way is due to policies that have been set forth by the DOD.

  11. NMCI is probably the worse case of fraud and wasteful GOVT spending known today!!! If the network isn't down, it's so absolutely slow (that you can leave, hit the head, get a cup of coffee, chit chat with your neighbor, and then make it back to your desk before your Internet homepage loads that is, if in their infinite wisdom, NMCI hasn't blocked it)!!!!

  12. NMCI has completely deserted the Navy when it comes to what is perhaps one of the largest IT projects in the world (Navy ERP). There are Navy sites currently implementing Navy ERP that have been waiting for a year for one network drop to be installed.
Navy ERP is not even involved, nor do they seem to care.

  13. Seeing that the Marines backed out of this wonderful deal, the new name for this gaff of a network shall be
NMCI = No More Computation or
    Internet

"Hit any key to continue..." nothing will happen.
