Musings, leadership tidbits and quotes posted by a retired Navy Captain (really just a high performing 2nd Class Petty Officer) who hung up his uniform a bit too early. He still wears his Navy service on his sleeve. He needs to get over that. "ADVANCE WARNING - NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT!" A "self-appointed" lead EVANGELIST for the "cryptologic community". I hear these two questions asked multiple times each day. The coolest part is the surprise on the faces of those being asked, considering the leader asking them wears four stars and sees one (if not the most important) of his many responsibilities is to serve them/us.
Captain, One of the most humbling experiences I had, was as a Second Class being asked by the CO what I thought we should do. I finally felt a strong sense of ownership and that the CO was a great leader. To this day I remember his name and would follow him into battle Anywhere! He wasn't easy or a pushover and not afraid to thrash you when needed but a great CO. I am sure he has long since retired as this was 20 years ago.
I think too many people now, fail to understand the power of this question.
