The EP-3E Airborne Reconnaissance Integrated Electronic System (ARIES) II is the Navy's only land-based signals intelligence (SIGINT) reconnaissance aircraft and provides fleet and theater commanders with near real-time tactical SIGINT. With sensitive receivers and high-gain dish antennas, the EP-3E exploits a wide range of electronic emissions from deep within targeted territory and can be deployed from a variety of locations based on its commonalities with the P-3 Orion aircraft.
VQ-1/VQ-2 are located at Whidbey Island, Washington.

How about some OPSEC on these missions?
ReplyDelete"can be deployed from a variety of locations based on its commonalities with the P-3 Orion aircraft."
ReplyDeleteThis statement is stupid. It can be deployed from a variety of locations because of highly qualified VQ maintenance personnel who deploy around the world to support the acft and its mission. VQ squadrons are self-sustaining and can perform their own maintenance without regard to VP squadron support - which by the way, is notoriously poor.
I got it. :)
ReplyDeleteFOD,
ReplyDeleteI knew you would !!!!
Now the two commands merged leaving VQ-1 with twice the missions and not nearly enough personnel, making it a difficult and highly frustrating command to be in. Cool location, good mission, but when they merged they cut the personnel they decided not to cut the missions...thanks a lot, assholes.
