The Commanding Officer of USS MOMSEN, Commander Jay Wylie, was fired by Rear Admiral Mark Guadagnini, commander of the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group, “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command stemming from allegations of misconduct.” Commander Wylie is the 10th commanding officer fired in 2011.
Commander Wylie was commissioned in May 1992 after graduating from the University of Southern California (USC). Over his 19-year career, he served tours aboard USS PORT ROYAL and USS CARNEY and USS BENFOLD. He served as executive officer of USS KIDD.
Commander Wylie had been in command of USS MOMSEN for 10 short months.
In a speech at USS MOMSEN change of command ceremony on July 8, 2010, Admiral Buzby said, “Becoming a commanding officer is the most sacred trust that can be bestowed upon an officer. Only a select few are chosen.”
Even fewer are successful at it.
ANCHOR UP OFFICERS!!
ReplyDeleteAny commanding officer wearing that ridiculous blue-tint camouflage uniform should be relieved for loss of confidence in ability to command.
ReplyDeleteI knew Jay Wylie as a young JO. He was a good kid and good officer. I am sorry he lost his command. Command at sea is a big deal and for us who have attained it, it remains a big honor. I hear CDR Wylie has a nice family and was a great father. I sincerely hope that whatever led to his dismissal was not related to anything that would harm his relationship with his wife. Does anyone know what was the cause?
ReplyDeleteThere are rumors of what led to it. Am sure it isn't too hard to find out, but in the interest of his family will not post them here.
ReplyDeleteGQ, We dont choose our uniforms.....
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:41, indeed I fear you are correct. I would have sooner worn a jockstrap and feathers to my change of command than that blue cammie wrapper. Call me old school. Another step in the transformation from United States Navy to the maritime branch of the American defense force.
ReplyDeleteThe firing was for inappropriate behavior, fueled by alcohol, and involved a sailor in Wylie's command, the Navy source with knowledge of the incident said, adding, "This guy just really showed poor judgment."
ReplyDeleteIf your going to blame it on the alcohol, then maybe we shall post why he was relieved!!
ReplyDeleteSexual transgressions in the military are not going to go away. They have
ReplyDeletenot gone away in the civilian sector, and the forced intimacy of military life virtually guarantees that they will persist in the military at even more intense levels. The prolonged separation of military personnel from their families increases the likelihood of straying from vows of fidelity. Moreover, the natural
attraction that men have for young women, combined with the natural
attraction that women have for high-status men, means that temptations for fraternization are always going to be high.
My favorite part of the picture is that the relieving CO can't salute for s@#t! He has his pinky out like he's drinking tea with the queen, or something...
ReplyDeleteIt was misconduct with both an enlisted female, who was actually a lesbian at Digger's Bar at ammo depot in Washington State, and a female officer who he pinned up against the bar, tried to kiss and put his hand in her panties in Victoria, Seychelles. All this happened while Wylie's wife was pregnant with their daughter. He's a real piece of shit. She got his retirement, he gets nothing. I hear he is writing a book while in the clink. He believes he did nothing wrong and his book is about that, its called From the bridge to the brig and back again, LOL, seriously
