This doesn't surprise me one bit. The great American Blue Jacket and the Officers who lead them are and exceptional group.
Sailors always rise to the level that leadership expects of them.
What a great group of young Americans the professional are!!!!!
Don't forget about TF PALADIN in Afghanistan. A lot of Navy supporting their efforts.

Coming from a CWO I think he may be forgetting it is CPOs that lead and mentor Sailors.

First and foremost let me point out that I know the value of a good CPO.
Now that I've cleared that up, let's talk about leadership 101 from my perspective as a Sailor who spent 30 years wearing the uniform of a Sailor.
Leadership starts at the top. The ship or unit takes on the personality of the Commanding Officer. The standards that are set by the Commanding Officer are communicated via the Wardroom - specifically through the Department Heads and then to the Division Officers - and for sake of argument to the CPO mess, via the CMC.
As the corporate technical expertise resides in the CPO mess and the Chief does know the White Hat best, it is the Chief Petty Officer that is the cog in the wheel that makes all of this happen.
I can tell the effectiveness of a CPO mess the minute I step onto the quartedeck - if it's squared away, it means that the the CPO mess is doing its job, if it's not, then the CPO mess is defective.
I take nothing away from the CPO (having been one for 6 years) that is not due. I stated the fact that leadership and standards are set at the top - if it isn't, then why do we have a CNO?
In closing - Officers run the Navy and the CPO makes the Navy run.
