"What must be unchanging, what must be enduring, is the quality of the sailors and Marines on board these ships and serving ashore. They must have moral as well as physical courage; they must have integrity; they must think creatively and boldly. They must have the vision and insight to see that the world and technology are constantly changing and that the Navy and Marine Corps must therefore change with the times – ever flexible and ever adaptable. They must be willing to speak hard truths, including to superiors – as did their legendary forebears."Secretary of Defense Robert Gates
Musings, leadership tidbits and quotes posted by a retired Navy Captain (really just a high performing 2nd Class Petty Officer) who hung up his uniform a bit too early. He still wears his Navy service on his sleeve. He needs to get over that. "ADVANCE WARNING - NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT!" A "self-appointed" lead EVANGELIST for the "cryptologic community". Keeping CRYPTOLOGY alive-one day and Sailor at a time. 2015 is 80th Anniversary of the Naval Security Group.
This coming from the guy who's marching lock-step with the Obama Administration on proposing the smallest pay raise (1.4 pct) for HIS servicemen since the 1973.
ReplyDeleteEven Congress thinks that's a silly proposal.
Captain Lambert,
ReplyDeleteThe Navy, and the Military, has become, or is in the process of becoming something other than what I knew and expected back in 1954. The world opinion of what a warrior should be, or maybe it is the opinion of our present politicians (which includes all the three branches of government) and their minions who prescribe to their superiors wishes as if they were their own, which by the way appear to be opinions that have reversed completely from when they were minions of a previous administration. I am not even going to point out the reversals we all should be aware of what those are, these individuals whether they be Military or super civilian should take a long walk off a short pier with a back pack full of cement.
Very Respectfully,
