"As we "tighten up" the budget, reduce our strength and pay attention to various congressional mandates - lots of bum dope is going to seep out around the edges. It comes from people as well as Navy Times. I have noticed a tendency to assume the worst, kind of a "doom and gloom" attitude. Some of that is human nature - too much of it seems to be endemic to the Security Group.
We're going to work hard to give you straight, accurate dope - you work hard to make sure our people are dealing with facts not fiction. Make sure the leadership stays in touch and keeps a positive attitude. We are in good shape and we'll keep it that way."
Rear Admiral James S. McFarland, 1988, as Commander Naval Security Group Command
